Jack Tales Theater

Jack Tales are humorous mountain tall tales about a trickster hero named Jack. They are based on traditional folk stories that the Appalachian settlers brought from their homelands, transplanted to the mountains, and passed along through family storytelling. Then in 1943, folklorist Richard Chase became the first to collect them in The Jack Tales, a highly regarded American folk classic.

Don't miss the Jack Tales! They have been enjoyed by families at this campground since 1987. See The Jack Tales. Or better yet, Be in them! Anyone of any age can take part in this activity--parents and children. For the major Jack Tales, here is what we do: We preview the story, pick parts, rehearse, put on costumes, and then perform Our Jack Tale. For Jack-in-a-Sack Tales, there is no rehearsal, but you may be picked to act out a part in the surprise story. Either way, it's good family fun! And it needs YOU to help make it happen. Come join us.

Remember to pick up a Jack Tales show schedule at time of check-in.
